Initial Assessment IAATW vs Uber Technologies Inc.

The Dutch NCP has accepted a notification of the International Alliance of App-Based Transport Workers (IAATW) regarding an alleged violation of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises by Uber Technologies Inc. 

According to the notifying party Uber failed to carry out adequate due diligence in relation to drivers’ working conditions such as health, safety, earnings and hours. Furthermore the notifying party alleges that Uber has not meaningfully monitored the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic for the drivers. The notifying party states that these issues at least occur in Costa Rica, India, Nigeria, Panama, South Africa, the United Kingdom and Uruguay.

The NCP is of the opinion that the notification merits further consideration and has offered its good offices to both parties.  Both parties have accepted this offer.
